DENTON, Texas – The University of North Texas women’s basketball team announced its non-conference schedule for the 2026-27 season on Friday, featuring eight home games at the Super Pit and matchups against three Power Five opponents, including a home game against Baylor from the Big 12.

The team is set to play six games away from home, with four being true road contests. Among the opponents are Power Five teams that each won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament last March.
Head coach Jason Burton emphasized the goal of bringing quality teams to the Super Pit and the state of Texas for fan engagement in November and December. He highlighted the significance of hosting Baylor on December 2 as part of a challenging non-conference slate designed to prepare the team for conference play. The schedule includes a home game against Oklahoma State and a matchup against Duke in San Antonio, both of which are strong contenders returning from an Elite 8 appearance.
The season kicks off on November 2, when North Texas faces Newman University, followed by a road game at San Diego State three days later. A highly anticipated game against Duke will take place on November 8 during The Foundry Classic at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Following the season opener, North Texas will play six of its next seven games at home, starting with matches against Houston Christian on November 11, Incarnate Word on November 14, and Saint Francis on November 18. The team will participate in the Hoopfest Basketball Women’s Challenge on November 22, competing against Arkansas State—who finished last season with a 27-9 record.
After home games against the University of Dallas on November 24 and Wofford on November 27, North Texas will host Baylor for the second consecutive year on December 2. Notably, the Bears have not played in Denton since 1999, and North Texas has won five straight home games against them.
The non-conference schedule wraps up with three road games, including a rematch with Oklahoma State on December 14. Other away games are set for Seattle on December 5 and Northern Colorado on December 22, alongside a home game against Alcorn State on December 18.
Details of the American Conference schedule will be released at a later date.
