Tajh Ariza: A Potential Target for the 2027 NBA Draft by the Trail Blazers

Tajh Ariza is set to begin his freshman year at the University of Oregon and will turn 19 by the time of the 2027 draft. At 6’9” and 200 pounds, he possesses the desirable 3&D skill set that defined his father's successful 18-year NBA career.

Defensively, Tajh Ariza excels, showcasing fluid movement and effective ball containment while being versatile enough to switch across multiple positions. His instinctive play and long reach help disrupt opposing offenses, as evidenced by his 22 steals in 14 documented games last season.

Offensively, he has demonstrated strong shooting potential, hitting 57.1% of his spot-up three-point attempts while playing for Link Academy, according to Synergy. He is also capable of making shots off the dribble from both deep and mid-range.

However, Ariza's game does have areas that need improvement. His playmaking ability is not yet strong, and his finishing at the rim is limited, particularly outside of clear paths for dunks. To maximize his potential, he will need to expand his offensive skills while strengthening his defensive prowess. If he can achieve this, he may emulate some of his father's success in the NBA.

With uncertainty surrounding Portland’s backup wing positions ahead of the 2026-27 season, Tajh Ariza could fit their needs. The current options, which include Vit Krejci, Sidy Cissoko, and two two-way players, do not seem to provide playoff-caliber depth.

The Blazers may consider addressing this shortfall through trades, but they should also keep an eye on developmental prospects like Tajh Ariza. His current limitations in playmaking and finishing might not be as pronounced on Portland’s roster if he focuses on his defensive skills and open shooting.

While it remains possible that Ariza may choose not to enter the 2027 NBA Draft given the appeal of NIL opportunities, he should certainly be on the Blazers' radar if he does declare.
