The North American hard-court swing kicked off with two first-time champions on the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz: Alexandra Eala at the Washington WTA 500 and Kristina Liutova at the inaugural Memphis WTA 250. Eala's title came after a challenging series of matches, where she defeated Zheng Qinwen, Leylah Fernandez, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, and Jessica Pegula, all notable players including former Grand Slam finalists and current Top 10 competitors. The last player to overcome the tournament's top three seeds en route to a title was Barbora Krejcikova at the 2023 Dubai event.

With victories over Zheng and Pegula, Eala now has a tour-leading total of seven Top 10 wins this season, tying with Svitolina and Elena Rybakina.

Liutova, just 16 years old, became the first player born in the 2010s to win a WTA title. She entered Memphis ranked No. 229 and had not played in a WTA qualifying event or faced a Top 100 opponent prior to this tournament. After coming through qualifying, she beat top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova (who retired during their match), Maya Joint, and Caty McNally to secure her first three Top 100 wins. Liutova now ranks No. 126, achieving a career-high and marking her Top 200 debut.

In Memphis, she joins Darja Vidmanova, who reached her first tour-level final after winning a WTA 125 title previously. Vidmanova's victory over former US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the second round helped her rise 22 places to No. 92 in the latest rankings.

Elvina Kalieva, 23, has also made significant strides, moving up to No. 121 after reaching her first WTA semifinal in Memphis.

Mexico's Renata Zarazua upset second seed McCartney Kessler in the first round and advances to her third career semifinal, climbing to No. 73.

In the WTA 125 tournaments held last week, Laura Samson claimed her first title in Targu Mures, defeating Kaitlin Quevedo. Samson jumped 30 spots to No. 123, while Quevedo advanced to No. 94.

In Vancouver, Taylah Preston secured her first WTA 125 title, rising to No. 106, while Maddison Inglis, also competing in her first final, climbed to No. 130.

Notable changes in rankings include Liudmila Samsonova moving up 15 spots to No. 55, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto gaining 12 positions to No. 59 after defeating two Top 30 players. Fiona Ferro, Vendula Valdmannova, Laura Pigossi, Barbora Palicova, Berfu Cengiz, Anastasia Kulikova, and Jule Niemeier also made significant jumps in their rankings due to recent performances.
