Salisbury temporarily stepped back from the sport at the end of 2025 but returned earlier this year, participating in the recent US Open alongside his longtime partner Rajeev Ram, where they reached the semi-finals.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Salisbury expressed his thoughts about retirement, stating, “I’ve decided I’m retiring from professional tennis. I’ve been thinking about it for a while and am now very happy with the decision.” He reflected on his tennis journey, saying it had been a significant part of his life, filled with opportunities and experiences. He acknowledged the support he received, highlighting the importance of the people he met along the way.
Salisbury concluded his career with four Grand Slam men's doubles titles: the Australian Open in 2020 and the US Open in 2021, 2022, and 2023. His three consecutive wins with Ram at the US Open mark a unique achievement in the tournament's history. Additionally, he made his Davis Cup debut in 2021 and represented Team GB at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.
Louis Cayer, Salisbury's long-time coach, commented on the retirement, noting the significance of finishing at the US Open, where Salisbury made history. He praised Salisbury's achievements, stating, “You became an outstanding athlete and competitor while always remaining humble, thoughtful, and respectful of those around you.”
