Pitt (6-3-1, 0-2-0 ACC) dominated the first half, registering seven shots to Virginia Tech's (5-1-3, 1-0-0 ACC) three, but the Hokies' goalkeeper made four crucial saves, keeping the score at 0-0 at halftime.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the 56th minute when Katie Ellermeyer assisted Sofia Doheny, who finished effectively in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, giving Pitt a 1-0 lead.
Virginia Tech quickly equalized just two minutes later, taking advantage of a corner kick. A Hokies player headed the ball into the net in the 58th minute to make it 1-1.
The decisive goal came in the 76th minute, when a Virginia Tech attacker maneuvered around a defender and struck a long shot into the left corner of the goal, putting the Hokies ahead 2-1.
Pitt concluded the match with 14 shots, seven of which were on target, but was unable to score again. Goalkeeper Elli Johnson made two saves during the game.
The Panthers will next face Syracuse on Thursday at 7 p.m., with the match available for streaming on ACC Network Extra.
