In an interview with Marca, Bonmati noted the lack of competitiveness in Spain's domestic league. "I think there are more attractive competitions, and the players are noticing it. You just have to see how many leave every year, especially to the English League. For me, we haven't become a top league, and we're far off being that," she said.
Bonmati also expressed a desire for a stronger Real Madrid, stating that an improved league would benefit all teams. Barcelona has been the dominant force in Spanish football, winning the last seven league titles and suffering only five league defeats since 2019.
However, Barcelona has faced a challenge in retaining its star players. Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas left for the Women’s Super League earlier this year, joined by Ona Batlle and Mapi Leon. Salma Paralluelo also made a move to OL Lyonnes, reflecting a growing trend since 2024.
