Akron Women's Soccer to Compete Against Ohio on Pups on the Pitch Day

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron women's soccer team will host Ohio in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) matchup on Sunday, September 27, at 1 p.m. The event will also celebrate Pups on the Pitch Day at FirstEnergy Stadium, where the first 100 dogs in attendance will receive an Akron Zips dog bowl.

The Zips, currently holding a record of 4-4-1, recently played to a dramatic 1-1 tie against Bowling Green, a team that reached the MAC title match last season. With less than 10 minutes remaining and trailing 1-0, Rachel Wenzel, the reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week, intercepted a goalie kick, leading to a goal that tied the game.

The Bobcats, with a record of 3-5-0, suffered a 2-0 defeat to UMass on September 20. Prior to that, they opened their MAC season with a close 3-2 loss to Western Michigan, during which they allowed all three goals in the second half. Jaimason Brooker leads Ohio in scoring with three goals, totaling a team-high seven points this season, with ten players having scored throughout the campaign.

Historically, Akron has a 6-12-4 record against Ohio, with their last victory occurring in 2020. The most recent encounter last season ended in a 1-1 draw in Athens.
