Last season, Thompson established himself as a pivotal player for the Pistons, who finished as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. He averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and led the league with 2.0 steals per game. His notable defensive contributions earned him a spot on the All-Defensive First Team and he finished third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.
In the 2026 NBA Playoffs, Thompson continued to showcase his defensive skills, averaging 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks across 14 games. He made history by becoming the first player since Anthony Davis in 2020 to achieve at least 25 steals and 25 blocks in a single postseason.
With this extension, Ausar Thompson and his twin brother, Amen Thompson, are set to become the first pair of brothers in NBA history to each sign contracts worth over $100 million.
