Akron Men's Soccer to Compete Against Georgetown in Key Matchup

The Zips, who currently hold a record of 5-0-2, are ranked No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, while Georgetown, with a 7-1-1 record, is ranked No. 5. This match marks Akron's second game against a ranked opponent this season; the first was a 3-2 victory against then-No. 18 Cornell on September 8, where Akron achieved a comeback after trailing twice.

Following a scoreless draw in their BIG EAST opener against Butler, the Zips returned to form with a standout performance against Robert Morris, scoring a season-high five goals and taking 35 shots — the most they've recorded in a single match in over a decade.

Georgetown enters the match after a 3-2 win over Evansville on Monday and a 3-0 victory against Marquette in their BIG EAST opener. Friday's game will be the Hoyas' first away match since September 7, which ended in a 3-2 loss to Maryland, marking their only defeat of the season.

In the historical series, Akron leads with a record of 3-1-1 against Georgetown. The teams last competed in 2024, where Akron won their regular season encounter 1-0 but lost 2-1 in overtime during the BIG EAST Tournament.

Additionally, the game will celebrate Greek Night, encouraging students from fraternities and sororities to show their support for the Zips.
