Cavan Sullivan Leads New USMNT Roster as 2030 Cycle Begins

U.S. Men's National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has announced a new 28-player roster ahead of upcoming friendlies, featuring 16-year-old midfielder Cavan Sullivan from the Philadelphia Union. Sullivan, who has had a standout season, scoring six goals and providing eight assists since the MLS resumed after the World Cup, receives his first senior call-up.

This roster marks a significant shift for the USMNT as it embarks on the 2030 World Cup cycle, with Pochettino bringing in 12 uncapped players, including Sullivan. The average age of the squad is 22 years and 9 months, making it considerably younger than the World Cup roster. Notably, star player Christian Pulisic has not been included in this lineup.

The USMNT is scheduled to face Peru on September 26 in Orlando, Florida, followed by a match against Chile in St. Louis three days later. Pochettino, who recently extended his contract with U.S. Soccer until the 2030 World Cup, emphasized a fresh approach as the team looks to the future, aiming for success at the 2028 Olympics and beyond.
