Coco Gauff recently shared that she had to pack an extra suitcase ahead of the China Open last month, considering the gifts awaiting her in Beijing. Gauff and Pegula have established themselves as a formidable duo in women's tennis, with a lengthy presence in the Top 10 rankings. Their ongoing success is a notable achievement, as few pairs from the same country have been able to maintain such high rankings simultaneously for an extended period.
The two players have now spent 209 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 together, a streak that highlights their consistency and dominance in the sport. Pegula boasts an individual streak of 222 weeks, 13 weeks longer than Gauff’s. Notably, only four pairs from the same country have matched or surpassed the 200-week mark together since 1997, including legendary pairs like the Williams sisters.
Both Gauff and Pegula are making WTA Finals history with their impressive streak of appearances. They are the first American pair to qualify together for five consecutive Finals since Mary Joe Fernandez and Zina Garrison from 1989 to 1993, and the first duo from the same country to achieve this since French players Nathalie Tauziat and Sandrine Testud from 1997 to 2001.
Historically, five Americans have achieved longer individual streaks at the Finals than Pegula and Gauff’s five consecutive years. Martina Navratilova holds the record with 17 appearances.
Both players have also made significant contributions during their time at the Finals. Gauff won the title in 2024 and Pegula reached the final in 2023. Together, they return to Indian Wells once again, solidifying their place in WTA history.
