As a result of this announcement, Sinner will miss several major events, including the Shanghai Masters, the Vienna Open, the Paris Masters, and the ATP Finals. Notably, he was the defending champion in the latter three tournaments.

Despite confirming his absence for the remainder of 2026, Sinner may have hinted at future plans. According to the Italian outlet Spazio Tennis, he has reportedly signed an agreement to participate in the China Open every year until 2030. Sinner did not compete in the China Open this year but had a successful run at the ATP 500 tournament in 2025, where he won the title and received a $1.2 million appearance fee.

The China Open is eager to have Sinner participate, and while his commitment is not finalized, it suggests he is planning his schedule well in advance. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz is expected to play in the Japan Open, which occurs during the same week as the China Open, aiming to defend his title for a third consecutive year after winning against Jiri Lehecka in this year's final.
