The waiver utilized a Buyout of a Guaranteed Contract, meaning Miazga will no longer be on the roster or affect the salary budget for 2026, retroactive to September 2, 2026.
General Manager Chris Albright expressed gratitude for Miazga's contributions, stating, "Everyone at the club is tremendously grateful for all that Matt did for FC Cincinnati. Matt brought to Cincinnati a winning mentality that helped turn around the trajectory of this team. He was a foundational piece in the growth of our club, and we wish him and his family the best."
Miazga arrived at FC Cincinnati from Chelsea FC and quickly became a starter, aiding the team in achieving its first-ever MLS Cup Playoff appearance in his debut season. In 2023, he was named the Major League Soccer Defender of the Year and was also honored with a place on the Best XI and All-Star Team, contributing to the team's victory in the Supporters’ Shield while helping maintain a clean sheet in 12 starts.
He experienced a significant knee injury during a match against the San Jose Earthquakes on June 15, 2024, but made a successful return to action within ten months in April 2025. Overall, Miazga made 108 appearances for FC Cincinnati, ranking as the tenth-most in the club's history.
