This match marked Creighton's first win against Butler since 1993, improving the Bluejays' record to 5-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in BIG EAST play. With the loss, Butler's eight-match unbeaten streak ended, leaving them at 6-3-4 and 1-1-3 in conference play.

Creighton scored just 30 seconds into the game, with senior Duray netting one of the fastest goals in program history after intercepting a backline pass, marking her fourth goal of the season. This quick goal is the fastest by a Bluejay since Lulu Quigley scored from a penalty kick just 21 seconds into a match against Western Illinois on October 28, 2001.

Butler responded swiftly, tying the game at 1-1 when Chloe Brecht scored her BIG EAST-leading seventh goal of the season from a corner kick delivered by Riley Grumm.

The Bluejays nearly took a 2-1 lead just before halftime when freshman Gabby Wagenfuhr scored following a series of passes. However, the goal was disallowed after a review for offside.

In the second half, with less than 20 minutes remaining, Creighton capitalized on a Butler mistake. Junior Macy Felton scored her first career goal with a free kick from 45 yards that bounced over the Butler goalkeeper and into the net, giving the Bluejays a 2-1 lead.

Butler pressed for an equalizer, and in the 79th minute, Lola Pepper drew a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick and a red card for Bluejay defender Olivia Sides. Paley responded by making a remarkable diving save on Grumm’s penalty kick to maintain the Bluejays' lead.

Paley faced additional pressure from Butler in the closing minutes but successfully managed to secure the victory with a total of seven saves, including two penalty saves this season. Despite Butler holding a 13-9 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, Creighton emerged victorious.

The Bluejays will be off for a week before facing Xavier on Saturday, October 17, at 12 p.m. CT in Cincinnati, Ohio.
