Columbia Men's Soccer Secures 1-0 Win Against Temple with Late Goal

This win marks Columbia's third consecutive victory and third consecutive shutout, improving their record to 3-1-1. The Lions have extended their unbeaten streak to four matches, achieving their best start through five games since 2018, the same year they last won three straight road matches. Temple, on the other hand, fell to 0-5-2.

McDaid's goal broke the scoreless tie with just under three minutes left in the match. The play originated with a pass near midfield from center-backs Sage Kinner and Joe McDaid. Joe delivered a low diagonal ball to Jack, who received it about 25 yards from goal. He spun past his defender and struck the ball from just outside the penalty area, finding the bottom-right corner and igniting celebration among the Lions.

In the second half, Columbia outshot Temple 11-2, demonstrating offensive dominance. McDaid now leads the team with four goals this season and is also at the top of the Ivy League in both goals and points, with 10.

The first half saw Temple initially controlling possession, forcing Columbia goalkeeper Aris Taki into a diving save in the ninth minute from a shot by Quint Van Roij. Columbia responded quickly with a shot from Henning Myrvang. The Lions continued to press, receiving a corner kick after a Luke Zielinski attempt, and forcing Temple's goalkeeper Dylan Kaye into a save from McDaid's strike.

Columbia generated a promising chance in the 39th minute when Ethan Heyward crossed to first-year Joshua Sosa, but Sosa couldn't capitalize, resulting in a routine save for Temple.

Both teams went into halftime tied, each tallying two shots on goal and two saves. Columbia outshot Temple 8-5 overall.

After the break, Columbia resumed its aggressive play, applying pressure early and forcing two quick saves from Kaye. The Lions maintained their momentum, generating numerous chances including a near miss from Sosa and multiple attacks into the box.

Temple finally gained some traction in the 72nd minute, but Taki was well-positioned to stop a dangerous deflected cross. In the 75th minute, Temple attempted an acrobatic bicycle kick from a free kick, but Columbia defenders cleared the danger. The Lions countered effectively, with Stepan Kapranov crossing for Myrvang, whose header sailed over the bar.

Overall, Columbia outshot Temple 19-7. Taki recorded three saves, securing his third victory and third consecutive shutout of the season.
