In an exclusive interview with Ariana Brockington from TODAY.com, Williams expressed her excitement about the new doll. "It's something that was memorable that I can play with with my girls, like the other one. It's like two sides of me. It's like the business side and the sports side," she said.
During the 2005 Australian Open, Williams faced significant challenges, notably in the semifinals and finals. In the semifinals against Maria Sharapova, she recovered from a first-set loss of 6-2 to win 7-5 and 8-6, saving three match points. In the finals, she once again dropped the first set, this time to Lindsay Davenport, but triumphed by winning the next two sets 6–3, 6–0.
Reflecting on this memorable tournament, Williams noted, "That slam meant so much to me. I was able to come back from so many downs, and even in the finals of that match, I was down so much. But I was somehow able to never give up. So when I'm playing with my daughters, I always want to teach them to never give up."
Williams also discussed the process of selecting the doll's outfit, saying, "When we were thinking of different outfits, we kept going back and forth, and that one just kept standing out. The colors were really fantastic on it, as well. We thought that that also told a really good story."
According to Brockington, the new Williams Barbie doll is available for purchase.
