Angel Reese Sets WNBA Record for Most Rebounds in a Single Season

With 1:50 left in the quarter, Reese grabbed her 500th rebound after deflecting a pass and securing a defensive board. Her remarkable 2026 campaign has included multiple record-setting performances.

On August 30, Reese achieved her 29th double-double of the season in Atlanta’s 89-81 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, which surpassed Alyssa Thomas’ previous record of 28 double-doubles set in 2023. A few days prior, during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks, she set the WNBA single-game record with 26 rebounds, which included 18 defensive and eight offensive boards, and also broke the single-season rebounding record of 458, previously held by A’ja Wilson.

Reese has continued to build on her accomplishments, reaching 900 career rebounds in just 71 games on May 29 and scoring her 1,000th point in a game against Connecticut on June 2. “Anything that goes up is mine,” she stated after her record-breaking performance. “I want to be one of the best when I walk away from the game.”

Having recently won gold with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup, Reese is experiencing the best season of her young career. She is only the second WNBA player to receive her own Barbie doll through a collaboration with Mattel and Reebok. Selected No. 7 overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese is averaging a double-double for the third consecutive season, posting career highs of 16.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.

Currently, she leads the WNBA in total rebounds, offensive rebounds with an average of 5.1 per game, and double-doubles. Dream head coach Karl Smesko remarked on her outstanding performance, emphasizing that she should be in the conversation for both the All-WNBA team and Defensive Player of the Year.
