The WTA Finals will see a continued presence of American players, as this marks the fifth year in a row that multiple Americans will compete. Pegula has had a notable season, finishing as runner-up in 2023 and reaching the semifinals in 2025 on her previous appearances at the Finals. This year, she has competed in five finals, winning the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and making it to the final at the Cincinnati Open, in addition to securing titles at the Credit One Charleston Open and runner-up finishes at two other events.
Gauff, a former WTA Finals champion who won the title in 2024, also enjoyed a successful season, winning the Cincinnati Open and reaching the finals at both the Miami Open and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome. She has demonstrated strong performances at Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and the US Open, as well as the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
The WTA Finals will feature eight singles players and eight doubles teams determined by the PIF Race to the WTA Finals Leaderboard. The top seven players from each race qualify automatically, with the eighth spot awarded to the highest-ranked Grand Slam champion who has not previously qualified.
The tournament celebrates the best talent in women's tennis, featuring a round-robin format where singles champion receives the Billie Jean King Trophy, while the doubles champions earn the Martina Navratilova Trophy. Tickets for this year's WTA Finals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden are available.
