Boston University Men's Soccer Defeats Bucknell 5-0 to Stay Undefeated in Patriot League

Most of BU's scoring occurred in the first half, starting with junior forward Dylan Williams, who scored with an assist from freshman defender Guillem Vila Ametller. Senior forward Andrea Di Blasio followed with a penalty kick goal, and senior forward Lapo Romieri pushed the lead to 3-0 just before halftime, assisted by junior midfielder Pharis Petrica.

In the second half, an own goal by Bucknell further extended BU's advantage as a shot by Romieri deflected off a defender into the net. Sophomore midfielder Sebastian Otero capped the scoring, regaining possession after a blocked penalty kick and firing it into the goal for the final 5-0 margin.

This win marks the Terriers' fourth straight victory and their biggest margin of victory against Bucknell since their first matchup in 2013.

In the early moments, Bucknell junior Drew Roskos had the first shot of the game at the 4th minute, which went wide. Williams took BU’s first shot five minutes later, forcing Bucknell goalkeeper Thomas Yerbury to make a save. In the 11th minute, Williams scored the opening goal after a corner kick set up by Vila Ametller.

Bucknell’s Mason Lillis aimed to equalize with a shot in the 13th minute that missed. Di Blasio attempted to extend the lead shortly after, but his shot was saved. BU continued applying pressure, with multiple attempts blocked before Di Blasio converted a penalty kick in the 40th minute, putting the Terriers ahead 2-0. Romieri added a goal just before halftime.

The second half saw both teams struggle for scoring opportunities until Romieri’s shot in the 72nd minute deflected off a Bucknell defender, increasing the lead to 4-0. A foul by Yerbury led to Otero’s penalty kick, which was initially saved but he regained possession to score.

Overall, the Terriers outshot the Bison 20-9 and had nine shots on goal compared to Bucknell’s two. BU also recorded nine corner kicks, while Bucknell had four.

The victory marks BU's first 5-0 win since October 21, 2006, against Maine and the first time they achieved this score at Nickerson Field since September 13, 1998, against Rhode Island.
