In her third year with the team, McKinney led the Gophers in scoring last season with an average of 12.7 points per game and recorded 57 steals. The 6-foot-1 guard was recognized as a second team All-Big Ten selection by coaches and made the third team according to media votes. She holds the all-time program record for assist-to-turnover ratio in a single season at 2.2.

McKinney, a former star at Minnetonka High School in the Twin Cities, was one of three returning starters from a Gophers squad that advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005. Minnesota finished 15th in the final Associated Press poll for the 2025-26 season, with the preseason ranking for 2026-27 set to be released on Tuesday. The Gophers will begin their regular season on November 2 against Harvard.
