The last eight players include one unseeded local favorite, two Grand Slam champions, seasoned veterans, and an emerging talent enjoying the best tournament of her career.
The first matchup features Zheng Qinwen against sixth-seeded Elina Svitolina. Zheng, currently ranked World No. 54, has consistently battled through tough matches, winning her last three encounters in three sets, including two come-from-behind victories. She reached the quarterfinals by defeating Alina Charaeva 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. In contrast, Svitolina’s path has been more straightforward after initially receiving a bye, winning the last six sets she played following a dropped set against Katerina Siniakova. Despite both being seasoned players, this will be their first meeting, with Zheng looking for her first semifinal appearance since June 2025.
Elise Mertens, the 19th seed, will face eighth-seeded Iga Swiatek. Swiatek holds a 2-0 record against Mertens, having never dropped a set to her in prior encounters. Mertens had to fight hard to secure her spot, notably overcoming a difficult match against Katie Volynets but won comfortably against Coco Gauff in the fourth round. Swiatek experienced late drama in her second match but dominated against Iva Jovic in the fourth round, winning 6-1, 6-3.
The third matchup sees Ekaterina Alexandrova take on fourth-seed Mirra Andreeva. Alexandrova has created upsets this tournament, defeating 11th seed Diana Shnaider and then besting fifth-seeded Linda Noskova without being broken in the latter match. Andreeva, while more rested, had to recover from an early set loss but then won convincingly in subsequent matches. Alexandrova holds a 2-0 lead in their head-to-head record, with this being their first encounter on hard courts.
Lastly, Karolina Muchova will face 26th-seeded Nikola Bartunkova. Muchova has navigated tough matches, including a nearly three-hour battle against Naomi Osaka that she clinched on her ninth match point. Bartunkova has made a name for herself with a significant upset against second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and then followed up by winning against Sinja Kraus. Despite their ten-year age difference and previous lack of tour encounters, both know each other’s games well from practice sessions at their training club in Prague.
