Joey Veerman of Borussia Dortmund has attributed his successful return to the Netherlands national team to his transfer to the Bundesliga club. Veerman made his debut with the Oranje in June 2023 and has since earned a total of 16 caps, including six appearances at Euro 2024. However, his time with the national squad came to a halt after a fallout with former coach Ronald Koeman, which saw him excluded following the Euro semi-final loss to England in July 2024.
After showcasing strong performances at Dortmund, Veerman received a renewed call-up under Xavi, who will lead the team for the first time tonight against Germany. Speaking to ESPN, Veerman said, "I made a great transfer, and now it is a new beginning for me with the Dutch national team. So why would I look back on that? There is absolutely no point. That transfer to Dortmund has been amazing for me."

He noted the stark differences between the German and Dutch leagues, expressing that the intensity and training are distinct.
