After a successful hard-court swing where she reached the semifinals in three out of four tournaments, including a semifinal loss to Aryna Sabalenka in New York, Pegula recognized the toll her busy summer had taken. She emphasized the importance of listening to her body, saying that the accumulation of matches can lead to fatigue. "When a big tournament finally ends, I think sometimes, for me at least, I start feeling a little bit run down," she noted.

Having had several weeks at home to recover with her husband, Taylor Gahagen, and their three dogs, Pegula feels ready to tackle the remaining tournaments of the season. Currently ranked No. 3 in the Race to the WTA Finals, she acknowledged her goal of participating in the year-end championships in California.

Seeded No. 2 in Wuhan, Pegula will begin her campaign against the winner of the match between Jelena Ostapenko and Daria Kasatkina. Pegula stated, "I think competing at a WTA 1000 is always a good time to win the tournament and to try to do your best," expressing her commitment to compete despite her earlier withdrawals.
