Head coach Rafa Simoes is in his third season at the helm of Marshall's women's soccer program. Under his leadership, the Herd saw a successful 2022 season, achieving its highest win total in a decade and earning four All-Conference selections, the most since 2015.
Marshall will be looking to extend its unbeaten home record of 2-0-2 against JMU, which was picked to win the Sun Belt Conference in the Preseason Coaches Poll. Nine players for the Herd have scored this season, with Larissa Ozorio contributing a goal in a recent victory against Troy.
JMU's forward Ginny Lackey, named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, has scored five goals this season, including a match-winner against ULM. Head coach Joshua Walters is in his ninth season with the Dukes, who are striving for their first conference regular season and tournament title since 2024. JMU leads the all-time series against Marshall 4-2-1, having won the last three matchups.
