Nebraska, under the direction of John Walker, its only head coach in program history, is in his 33rd season. Walker has led the Cornhuskers to 11 conference championships and produced 14 All-Americans along with 54 all-conference players.

Entering the matchup, Nebraska holds a record of 2-2-4, having allowed only one goal in its last four matches. The team began conference play with a home loss against Indiana and a road draw against then-No. 25 Iowa.
