The roadmap sets ambitious goals for the league, targeting annual commercial revenues of €648 million by the end of the decade, building on a previous five-fold increase in revenue over the last ten years. Currently, the revenue distribution through market pool and competition bonuses is only €70 million.
Expansion is a key aspect of the plan as it includes the potential for two franchise growth windows scheduled for 2027 and 2031, with €1.2 billion in anticipated franchise fees, further supplementing club distributions. Euroleague Basketball has reportedly received 15 binding offers valued at a combined €1.2 billion, indicating strong interest in the competition's future.
The organization aims to transition to a franchise model, expected to enhance the market value of both the clubs and the League by 25% starting in the 2026-27 season. By the end of the 10-year period, the total value of the licensed clubs could reach €5.4 billion, while the League might see its value grow to €7.98 billion.
Financial sustainability is a pivotal focus, with the objective that all licensed clubs will achieve financial stability by the end of the first phase of the business plan. Currently, about 40% of licensed clubs are in a sustainable financial position. Xavi Puyada, Chief Financial Officer of Euroleague Basketball, emphasized the commitment to enhancing clubs' financial health while boosting their revenue-generating capabilities, which have already seen significant increases over recent years.
The plan also includes plans to strengthen Financial Fair Play regulations and invest in technology and venue modernization, with the new initiative, Euroleague Basketball+, aimed at creating a robust digital platform for European basketball. Overall, the business plan seeks to ensure that the economic advantages of the competition enhance a sustainable basketball environment in Europe.
