Zverev expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, "I haven't won a match here in two years, so I'm happy that I did it today. Massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way again. This year, we had a great team chemistry and I'm very happy that we won." This victory marked Zverev's first singles win at the Laver Cup since 2024.
During the weekend's competition, Zverev had faced difficulties, including a loss in doubles on Friday and dropping multiple match points against Alex De Minaur on Saturday. However, he rallied to win a crucial doubles match alongside Casper Ruud, placing Team Europe just two victories shy of the title.
In a doubles match earlier on Sunday, Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik contributed to Europe's lead by defeating Team World's De Minaur and Taylor Fritz, 7-5 6-3, extending the advantage to 10-5. Although Zverev struggled against rookie Tien, he ultimately secured the win, with Alcaraz available as backup if needed, helping Team Europe finish strong in front of tournament co-founder Roger Federer and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
With this win, Team Europe has claimed victory in six of the nine editions of the Laver Cup.
