As one of the largest academic medical systems in New York, Mount Sinai will provide top-tier health care, including specialties such as orthopedics, sports medicine, emergency medicine, and musculoskeletal radiology, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. This partnership with the USTA emphasizes shared values focused on promoting health and wellness, preventing injuries, and addressing the diverse needs of local communities.
Dr. Alexis Colvin, Professor of Orthopedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will continue in her roles as Chief Medical Officer of the US Open and U.S. Billie Jean King Cup Team Physician. Dr. Melissa Leber, Associate Professor of Orthopedics and Emergency Medicine, will serve as the Director of Player Medical Services. Together, they will lead a multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, and specialists from Mount Sinai.
Additionally, this marks Mount Sinai's 12th year serving the U.S. Teams for both the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup. Dr. James Gladstone, Chief of the Sports Medicine Service, will also support the Player Medical Services at the US Open.
Dr. Colvin expressed pride in the partnership, emphasizing the commitment to providing patient-centered care to athletes. "Our focus remains on ensuring athletes have access to the specialized services they need to compete at the highest level," she said. Having served since the partnership began in 2013, Dr. Colvin is not only a respected orthopedic surgeon but also has experience working with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.
Dr. Leber, who has extensive experience in sports medicine and emergency care, highlighted the long-term benefits of tennis for physical and mental health, reflecting her passion for both the sport and the well-being of athletes.
Mount Sinai will also offer additional services including acupuncture, podiatry, dermatology, and an onsite pharmacy. Mental health services will be available remotely, alongside full services at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
In 2026, the Department of Diagnostic, Molecular, and Interventional Radiology will provide diagnostic ultrasound and radiographic examinations for the players. Dr. Jhanna Moore, who leads the radiology team, noted the importance of swift and accurate care, stating, "Speed and accuracy define athlete care, and onsite radiology delivers both."
Mount Sinai's team averages 90 to 100 ultrasound exams during the tournament, utilizing advanced portable ultrasound technology to facilitate immediate assessments of player injuries.
Dr. Leesa M. Galatz, Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai, expressed enthusiasm for continuing the partnership, highlighting the commitment to delivering expert care to elite athletes.
Beyond medical services, Mount Sinai will engage with fans at an interactive booth throughout the tournament and Fan Week, promoting their "Play Well, Stay Well" campaign and offering activities such as creating animated tennis player avatars.
