Initially, the teens were anxious, fearing the officers had come to stop their game. Andrew Moreno, one of the teens, recalled their reaction, saying, "We were playing and playing and the cops come by and were like oh no! We're about to get kicked off." Instead of ending their fun, Martinez challenged them to a one-on-one match.

Jonathan Maldonado, another local teen, expressed his surprise at the officers' willingness to play, noting, "I was nervous, and then once they said they wanted to play with us, I was like, okay that's cool." Moreno added, "It was a shock to me, I was like what are these guys doing bro, they are in full gear, with boots."

Wearing his police uniform, Martinez showcased his soccer skills during the challenge, executing techniques like the scissors and the elastico. Maldonado noted Martinez's surprising performance, saying, "He started twitching like an actual soccer player, and I was like oh my God there's no way."

Sanchez remarked on Martinez's abilities, stating, "He's a very good soccer player; I've seen videos of him in college." The department later shared footage of the event, which quickly gained wide attention. Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina reported that the video has reached 18 million views, emphasizing the importance of community engagement that was evident during the game.

Some of the teens from the event have since expressed interest in taking the police exam, showcasing the positive impact of the interaction. Martinez reflected on the encounter, saying, "I was able to show a passion in my life and combine that with community policing; that is amazing and I am never going to forget this moment."

Catalina praised Martinez's performance, saying he "did an amazing job of embarrassing all of them" during the one-on-one challenges. The officers and teens later reunited, sharing memories of the memorable experience that highlighted the connection between police and the community.
