Born in Winchester, Samuel trains at the University of Bath and the National Tennis Center. He began playing tennis at age three at St Leonards and St Ives Tennis Club in Ringwood, Bournemouth, before continuing his development at West Hants Club.
Before fully committing to tennis, Samuel exhibited promise as a football player and was enrolled in the AFC Bournemouth football academy at 11. However, he ultimately chose to focus on tennis.
As a junior, Samuel achieved notable success, reaching the boys' doubles semi-final at Wimbledon in 2019 with partner Arthur Fery and attaining a career-high junior ranking of world No. 56. He then opted for the American college route, attending the University of South Carolina, where he studied sports management. During his collegiate career, he won the all-American doubles title with fellow Brit Connor Thomson, becoming the top-ranked doubles team in collegiate tennis.
