Aniyah Collier opened the scoring in the 41st minute, converting a pass from Sarah Flammia, assisted by Kyra Koopman. Collier finished the play from approximately nine yards out, placing the ball past the near post.
Addison Halpern extended the lead in the 62nd minute. After some buildup from the team, Faith Broering set Halpern up at the top of the penalty arc, allowing her to take a few dribbles before scoring with a shot into the left side of the goal.
Halpern added her second goal of the night in the 81st minute, receiving a pass from Sophia Bradley and completing the scoring at 3-0.
Notable aspects of the match include Collier's first career game-winning goal and Halpern’s second brace of the season, following a similar performance against La Salle earlier in the month. With this win, Virginia improved its home record against Miami to 12-0-0 and holds an 18-2-1 all-time record against the Hurricanes. Victoria Safradin recorded her third clean sheet of the season and now has a total of 21 career shutouts.
Head coach Steve Swanson expressed satisfaction with the performance, highlighting the importance of securing ACC wins at home. He noted, "It was a good win for us… there were a lot of great things in the performance, but a lot we can work on as well."
Virginia will host North Carolina next weekend, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, September 25.
