Jannik Sinner, the world number one, has withdrawn from the upcoming Shanghai Masters tennis tournament as he continues to recover from a knee injury. This injury has kept him off the court since his victory at Wimbledon in July. The 25-year-old Italian has missed the North American hardcourt circuit, including the US Open and the current ATP 500 event in Beijing.

On Instagram, Sinner expressed his disappointment, stating, "Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year as I had hoped. I always enjoy playing in front of the Shanghai fans and I’m very sorry that I won’t be able to do so next week."
The Masters 1000 event is set to take place from October 11 to 18 and features a competitive field, including four-time champion Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and defending champion Valentin Vacherot.
Sinner, who won the Shanghai title in 2024 by defeating Djokovic in the final, will be missed. His absence may benefit Zverev, who is vying to end the season as the world number one. If Zverev wins both the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters, he can ascend to the top ranking for the first time.
