Team History

Founded in 1962, the Denso Iris has participated in Japan's top women's basketball league since their promotion to Division 1, now known as the W League, in 1993. The organization is a multi-sport entity, also managing teams in volleyball, softball, athletics, table tennis, and rowing.

Path to WBL Asia 2026

The team's journey to the WBL Asia began in earnest during the 2025-26 W League season, culminating in their first championship victory. They defeated the regular season champions, the Toyota Antelopes, in a best-of-5 series, clinching the title with a decisive 70-51 win in the final game. Denso finished the elimination round with an 18-10 record, securing a spot in the Semi-Finals. There, they ended the Fujitsu Red Wave's hopes for a three-peat, advancing in impressive fashion and ultimately earning the right to compete in the WBL Asia 2026.

Players to Watch

The Denso Iris has a rich history of producing talent for the Japan national team, including players like Maki Takada and Himawari Akaho. Takada played a pivotal role in the team's championship run, earning Playoff MVP honors by averaging 20.75 points in the Finals at the age of 38. The team has also signed Kiersten Johnson, a former NCAA Division 1 standout, who will make her professional debut at the WBL Asia showcase from October 20-25. The Iris are aiming for a strong performance in the tournament following the Red Wave's runner-up finish last year.
