As the Tigers prepare for the 2026-27 season, this commitment adds a significant player to Wade's roster for 2027-28. King Gibson, a combination guard from Greensboro, North Carolina, is ranked as the No. 15 player nationally and the No. 3 combo guard according to 247Sports' composite rankings. He stands at 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 185 pounds. Last spring and summer, Gibson averaged 16.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while playing for Team United. He also recorded an average of 14.6 points per game with 4.2 assists during his last season at Spire Academy.

Gibson visited LSU last month and chose the program over Arkansas, Louisville, and Providence, while also receiving offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Missouri, among others.

Building a relationship with Wade over time influenced his decision. Gibson noted, "Coach Wade was recruiting me when he was at North Carolina State."

Wade, who coached at North Carolina State for one season before returning to LSU after his previous tenure from 2017 to 2022, expressed a commitment to fostering a positive environment. Gibson praised Wade's coaching style, stating, "He communicates well with his players. I spoke to some of the players on the team. They trust him, and they love him."

This commitment joins another significant addition to the team, Ahmad Hudson, a six-foot-six, 239-pound player from Ruston High, who is also a five-star college football prospect. Hudson aims to participate in both basketball and football at LSU.

The Tigers will commence their 2026-27 exhibition season with a game against McNeese State at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Lake Charles.
