The allegations first came to light on September 16, when a teacher reported rumors of hazing involving the soccer team. No parents or students from the program had previously contacted the district about these incidents. Subsequently, the district notified law enforcement and initiated an investigation, which concluded with no criminal charges being filed. However, the district disciplined the students involved.
Reports indicate that the hazing activities were premeditated and occurred at a district parent's home. Video evidence has surfaced showing some players forcing hot dogs into the mouths of new teammates while their wrists were zip-tied and their bodies wrapped in saran wrap. In one video, younger players could be heard asking older teammates to stop.
Parents of the affected players have expressed deep concerns about the culture of the program, describing it as toxic. One parent, speaking anonymously, stated that several freshmen were taken from their homes under the pretense of a team bonding event and faced ridicule and inappropriate comments. Another parent remarked, "This isn't just bullying; it’s malicious behavior."
Understanding the severity of the situation, the school district has reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance for hazing. The district’s hazing policy prohibits planning, encouraging, or participating in such activities. It also calls upon students and staff to report any incidents of hazing, bullying, or harassment to school authorities or through an anonymous reporting system.
As the situation develops, Olentangy Schools is committed to transparency and maintaining high standards of student welfare and safety. The investigation is ongoing, and the district has not yet participated in on-camera interviews.
This situation has raised significant concerns within the community, with parents worried about potential retaliation against their children for speaking out. The district is urging anyone with information regarding hazing to come forward.
