Canada Names 26-Man Roster with 10 MLS Players for 2030 World Cup Preparations

Canada's national soccer team head coach Jesse Marsch has announced a 26-man roster that includes 10 players from Major League Soccer (MLS) as the team embarks on its preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Among the MLS players called up, five were part of the 2026 World Cup squad. Notably, Toronto FC's Richie Laryea and Luc de Fougerolles from Real Salt Lake were key players during the previous tournament, alongside LAFC's Mathieu Choinière and Jacob Shaffelburg. Dayne St. Clair is on the roster as a backup for Orlando City’s Maxime Crépeau, who is absent due to personal reasons.

Jeevan Badwal and James Pantemis each have one cap, while Richard Chukwu, who recently signed a homegrown contract, is yet to make his debut. The roster includes ten players with ties to MLS, including the Villarreal trio of Tajon Buchanan, Nathan Saliba, and Tani Oluwaseyi.

Canada's upcoming friendlies include matches against Chile on September 26 in Toronto, Peru on October 3 in Montréal, and a clash with the United States on October 6 in St. Paul, Minnesota. These matches mark the beginning of their preparations for the new World Cup cycle.

Marsch, who extended his contract earlier this year, has been instrumental in leading the CanMNT to significant achievements, including reaching the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup and finishing fourth in the 2024 Copa América. Under his guidance, Canada also achieved a record high of No. 26 in the FIFA World Rankings.
