In the first half, Grace Wetzel and Taylor Ayres scored, giving the Beavers an early advantage. These goals marked the first collegiate scores for both players.
Oregon State led for over 83 minutes before San Diego State equalized with two goals in the final eight minutes of the game.
Wetzel opened the scoring less than four minutes into the match when Sophia Zboyan assisted her with a ball played into space on the right flank. Despite San Diego State’s attempts to create opportunities in response, the Beaver defense held strong.
Ayres doubled the lead in the 37th minute, scoring with a looping header from a long free-kick delivered into the box by Ava Burdeyny. Oregon State went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw San Diego State increase their attacking efforts. An important defensive play by Reese Thurston in the 61st minute prevented a goal, as she headed the ball over the crossbar just in time.
The Aztecs finally struck in the 83rd minute, converting on a loose ball in the Beaver penalty area. They equalized in the 88th minute, resulting in a tie as the match concluded.
Oregon State committed 23 fouls during the match, while San Diego State had seven. The Beavers will return to Lorenz Field on Sunday for a game against Texas State.
