Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore attributed his decision to join FC Koln to the success of fellow English players Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in the Bundesliga. The 19-year-old completed a season-long loan move to Koln last month, becoming the latest English talent to venture into the German top flight.

Moore mentioned how Sancho's move from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund nearly a decade ago set a precedent. Sancho became one of Europe's premier wingers during his time in Germany, amassing over 150 appearances and helping Dortmund secure the DFB-Pokal in 2021 before transferring to Manchester United for £73 million. Similarly, Bellingham made a significant move in 2020 from Birmingham City to Dortmund. He quickly turned into a highly sought-after player, ultimately joining Real Madrid for an initial £88.5 million in 2023.

In a Thursday interview on the Euro Leagues podcast, which airs on BBC Radio 5 Live, Moore expressed how he was inspired by the accomplishments of his compatriots, stating that the Bundesliga offers a great platform for young attackers. He highlighted the trust from the Koln management, which encouraged him to embrace the challenge. "I'm already happy with my decision. Now I can really kick on and build my own path in German football," Moore said.

Although newly turned 19, Moore is familiar with stepping outside his comfort zone. Last season, while on loan at Rangers in Scotland, he made 47 appearances, including in Champions League qualifying rounds, scoring six goals and supplying two assists in 28 league matches. Despite having options to remain in England, he opted for the Bundesliga to test himself in one of the world's top leagues.

Since his arrival at Koln on transfer deadline day, Moore has settled in, finding an apartment near fellow English youth internationals Reigan Heskey and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, who are also with the club on loan. He has also begun learning German at his mother's request, joking about his initial challenges with the language but expressing determination to improve.

Looking ahead, Moore is eager for his upcoming match against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich next month, where he will have the opportunity to face Harry Kane, a long-time idol. Moore recalled training with Kane during the 2021-22 season, and he is excited about the prospect of sharing the pitch with him. He hopes to collect Kane's shirt as a keepsake after the game.
