This game will mark the debut for new head coach Michael Malone on the sidelines for the Tar Heels. It will be broadcast live on the ACC Network.
After the game against USC, Carolina will participate in two additional exhibition games: one against Indiana in Indianapolis on October 18 and a home game against Charlotte on October 27 in the Smith Center.
The Tar Heels' regular season opener is scheduled for November 2 against Western Carolina in Chapel Hill. The team returns senior forward Jarin Stevenson as its only starter, along with five lettermen from a squad that went 24-9 last season, achieving the program's 66th 20-win season, the second-most in college basketball history. Eleven newcomers have joined for the 2026-27 season. Last year, UNC tied for fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 12-6 record and earned its 55th NCAA Tournament bid.
