The Spartans boast two players in the top 15 and four in the top 103 nationally for singles. Additionally, two doubles teams are ranked in the top 80, marking a significant achievement as Michigan State is the only team in the country to have every player on its roster ranked. This comprehensive showing represents one of the strongest ranking performances in the program's history.
Sophomore Matthew Forbes is ranked No. 3, while senior Ozan Baris holds the No. 14 spot. Sophomore Vuk Radjenovic comes in at No. 90, and senior David Saye is ranked No. 103.
Forbes' rise to No. 3 follows his previous pre-season ranking of No. 66, thanks to a successful fall season where he reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Individual Championships, securing multiple ranked wins and his first All-American honors.
Baris, who started the fall ranked No. 7, now sits at No. 14. He has an impressive record of ranked wins and will be entering his final spring season alongside Forbes. In the most recent NCAA Individual Championships, Baris advanced to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year but was defeated by Columbia's Michael Zheng, marking their second consecutive encounter in the tournament.
Radjenovic's No. 90 ranking is his first entry into the top 100, following a strong performance in the fall. Saye ranks at No. 103, contributing to the Spartans' total of four players in the top 103, a feat matched by only a few other programs nationally.
In doubles, Alazmeh and Rakhmatullayev are ranked No. 14, showcasing their potential as one of the top doubles teams in the Big Ten. Sheldon and Saye are ranked No. 76, providing another strong pairing for the Spartans.
As the Michigan State men’s tennis team prepares for the spring season, they carry significant momentum and national recognition to enhance their competitive standing. The team's full schedule for the upcoming season will be announced later.
