The Toray Pan Pacific Open, as the final WTA 500 of the year, could have significant implications for the WTA Finals. Svitolina and Karolina Muchova are positioned sixth and seventh, respectively, on the PIF Race to the WTA Finals leaderboard. Linda Noskova holds the eighth spot, but since she has won a Grand Slam this season, she must finish below No. 20 in the rankings to miss out on qualification.

Kostyuk and Swiatek are currently ninth and tenth, respectively, as the tournament in Beijing, another major event, is underway.

The tournament will feature prominent players, including Belinda Bencic, Iva Jovic, Diana Shnaider, Sorana Cirstea, Naomi Osaka, Alexandra Eala, Elise Mertens, and Jasmine Paolini. In what could be her last tournament, Cirstea is also in the mix. The final four direct entrants are Maja Chwalinska, Anna Kalinskaya, Leylah Fernandez, and Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Additionally, four main-draw alternates have been designated: Ann Li, Diane Parry, Maria Sakkari, and Nikola Bartunkova. The 28-player field will include six qualifiers, four wild cards, and a special exempt position. The top four seeds will receive byes to the second round.

Belinda Bencic is the defending champion, having defeated Varvara Gracheva, Muchova, and Sofia Kenin before claiming her title against Noskova last year. This marks Bencic’s seventh appearance in the tournament; she first played in 2013 and reached the final in 2015. Naomi Osaka, the 2019 champion, previously made finals in 2016 and 2018.

Rybakina, who is also vying for the year-end No. 1 ranking, advanced past the quarterfinals last year but withdrew from the semifinals due to back pain.

Action will commence with first-round matches on Monday, October 26, and the tournament will continue through Sunday, November 1, which will conclude with both singles and doubles finals. The champion will receive 500 ranking points and a prize of $185,500.
