Mouratoglou recently stated on social media that he considers Roger Federer the best male player in Wimbledon history and Martina Navratilova the best female player at the All England Club. He made these remarks in an Instagram video while also discussing current favorites for both tournaments. According to Mouratoglou, Federer stands out due to his playing style, and he suggested that Jannik Sinner has been the most dominant player on grass in the last three years, overlooking Carlos Alcaraz's achievements.

In addition to his Wimbledon commentary, Mouratoglou named Carlos Alcaraz as the best current player at the US Open and rated Pete Sampras as the all-time number one in the men's category, citing Sampras's young age at his first win and his retirement victory at 31. For women, he stated that Serena Williams is the greatest player in history, with Aryna Sabalenka as a current contender.

Becker responded to Mouratoglou's claims, stating, "I am very surprised by his choices… most tennis experts would not agree with him!" He acknowledged that Mouratoglou's opinions have merit but pointed out that other names deserve consideration for both major tournaments. For instance, Federer is often regarded as one of the best in New York, and Novak Djokovic, who has seven Wimbledon titles, is still in the conversation for the title of greatest player there.

In the women's game, while Navratilova holds nine Wimbledon singles titles, the historical debate regarding the US Open is tighter, with Chris Evert and Serena Williams both in contention for the greatest of all time, along with Molla Bjurstedt Mallory, who won eight times prior to the Open Era.
