The Los Angeles Clippers have waived 24-year-old Johni Broome, a recent second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Broome's release comes less than two months after he was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers, alongside a second-round pick, in a trade.

In his rookie season, Broome played 11 games for the Clippers, averaging 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds while shooting just 16.7% from the field in about five minutes of play per contest. His performance in the G League, however, was more impressive; he averaged 19.3 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 blocks over eight games, shooting 46.9% from the floor and 22.9% from three-point range.
One noteworthy G League performance saw him score 50 points along with 17 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks while shooting 18-of-34 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc for the Delaware Blue Coats, Philadelphia's affiliate.
Broome was selected 35th overall by Philadelphia in the 2025 Draft after a standout collegiate career at Auburn, where he was named the SEC Player of the Year and averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks while shooting 51% from the field during his senior year. Despite this success, Broome has struggled to adapt to the NBA level, facing challenges in offense and defense that have limited his effectiveness.
As he looks for a new opportunity, Broome will need to improve his perimeter shooting and playmaking skills to secure a spot on an NBA roster. If he does not succeed in the NBA, he may continue to demonstrate his talents in the G League during the upcoming 2026-27 season.
