Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Jannik Sinner are confirmed to compete in the 1 Point Slam, which will return to the Australian Open in 2027, organizers announced on Thursday. This knockout event, where a single loss eliminates a player, debuted at Melbourne Park earlier this year prior to the season's first Grand Slam.

The inaugural event featured 48 participants, including 24 professionals and 24 amateurs and celebrity wildcards. Matches were decided by one point, allowing the winner to advance while the loser was eliminated. All matches took place at the Rod Laver Arena, the main venue of the tournament, with the champion receiving AU$1 million (approximately US$670,000). Amateur Jordan Smith won the competition, outperforming professional players and other entrants.

Tom Larner of Tennis Australia highlighted the event's objective: "It creates an opportunity for grassroots tennis players to share the spotlight with some of the biggest names in the game. Having stars like Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Jannik Sinner locked in to play, alongside everyday Australians, captures exactly what this event is about, bringing people together through tennis."

The amateur field for the 2027 event will again consist of winners from eight state championship rounds held across Australia, along with additional qualifiers. The remainder of the draw will be filled with celebrity wildcards. In 2026, the Australian Open attracted over 1.3 million attendees, and organizers plan to enhance viewing capacity for the upcoming tournament, scheduled for January 17-31, 2027.
