Clara Burel Claims Title at the BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia 2026

Clara Burel triumphed over Alicia Herrero Linana with a score of 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the final of the BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia on Sunday evening. This victory marks Burel's first title of 2026 and her second WTA 125 title overall.

Currently ranked No. 412, Burel has been recovering from a significant knee injury. After losing the opening set, she dominated the match, winning 12 of the final 14 games. This win moves her closer to breaking into the top 200 and secures her a spot in Australian Open qualifying.

Burel’s path to the final included victories over Joelle Lilly Sophie Steur from Germany (6-1, 6-4), Guiomar Maristany Zuleta de Reales from Spain (6-2, 6-4), an advancement due to the withdrawal of Italian Martina Trevisan, and a win against Spanish qualifier Aran Teixido Garcia (7-6 (3), 6-0).

Herrero Linana, ranked No. 305, had an impressive run to the final, defeating Yasmine Kabbaj from Morocco (6-0, 6-3), Irene Burillo (6-2, 6-1), Swiss No. 7 seed Rebeka Masarova (6-1, 6-2), and wildcard Lucia Cortez Llorca (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
