Como Defender Jacobo Ramon Discusses Cesc Fabregas' Impact on Serie A

Currently on international duty with the U21 Spain national team, Ramon shared his insights in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. He highlighted the new style of play in Serie A, which is influenced by updated referee guidelines. Remarkably, Serie A has not recorded any 0-0 draws in the first five matches of the season, unlike other top European leagues.

Ramon noted, "The new rules have vastly improved the game; they’re excellent for football because they make it far more dynamic. We get much more tired, but it’s positive for the fans. There haven’t been any goalless draws; there are more goals; the football is more attacking, more spectacular and more entertaining."

He pointed out that while Como had many clean sheets last season, they have not managed that this year due to the increased openness of the matches. Como recently faced their first defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Frosinone. Ramon acknowledged the intensity of the opposing team, stating that their performance reflected a lack of focus from Como, which ultimately led to their defeat.

Having joined Como from Real Madrid in 2025, Ramon quickly became a starting player under Fabregas. He reflected on his personal development since moving, saying, "It changed my mindset. I had to step out of my comfort zone, and it did me good. I’ve matured and changed some aspects of my routine. I’m doing very well."

Ramon compared La Liga and Serie A, noting that while La Liga is typically contested by a few top teams, Serie A showcases competition among several teams, suggesting that a more open title race is expected this season. He identified Inter as the primary contender in Serie A this year, acknowledging their strong performance from the previous season and their recent strengthening.

Looking ahead, Como will host Roma, a match Ramon described as a significant challenge. Despite some media criticism of Fabregas as a disruptive force, Ramon disagreed, stating, "Cesc loves Italy very much and greatly admires Italian football. He’s trying to promote the Serie A movement to encourage a more eye-catching, beautiful-to-watch style of football."

As discussions around squad composition arise, Ramon noted the increase of Italian players on the team, mentioning recent additions like Ricci and Kean. Finally, he expressed his contentment with his current position at Como, stating, "I’m very happy at Como. We’ve only just started the season, and I’m not thinking about anything else. We need to have a great season, nothing more."
