IOWA CITY, Iowa – Dani Carnegie, a guard for the University of Iowa women's basketball team, played a key role in leading the United States to a gold medal at the 2026 FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup on Saturday in Wuhan, China. Throughout the tournament, Team USA showcased strong performances, winning all six of its games. A scheduled pool-play matchup against Australia was not conducted due to adverse court conditions. Carnegie demonstrated her skills from the start, recording four offensive rebounds in a narrow 16-14 victory over Japan in the opening round, followed by scoring seven points, including three 2-pointers, in a dominant 21-8 win against Slovenia.
In the knockout stage, Carnegie led her team in scoring with eight points during a quarterfinal victory over the Netherlands, which ended 21-17. She continued her strong play with six points in the semifinals, helping the United States notch a 21-16 win against Spain to reach the final.
In the championship game against Canada, Carnegie contributed five points and secured four rebounds, further solidifying her impact on the team.
This gold medal adds to a successful summer for Carnegie with USA Basketball. She was part of the United States team that won the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Nations League Americas North Conference in July in Ñuñoa, Chile, earning a spot in the U23 World Cup. Additionally, she participated in the USA Basketball 3X Showcase in May, where Team Phoenix claimed the tournament title.
Carnegie joined the Hawkeyes this offseason after receiving unanimous First Team All-SEC honors while playing for Georgia in the 2025-26 season. She averaged 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 32 games for the Bulldogs. Prior to that, as a freshman at Georgia Tech in 2024-25, she was named ACC Sixth Player of the Year and included in the All-ACC Freshman Team.
