Jovic and Quevedo Secure Titles as Czech Republic Shocks USA in Davis Cup

In the latest edition of The Base Line, teenage player Iva Jovic claimed her first title of 2026 at the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, defeating compatriot Peyton Stearns 6-4, 6-2. Jovic, who showcased a dominant performance throughout the event without dropping a set, converted 77% of her first serve points and did not face any break points in the final. Her victory propels her to a career-high ranking of 13 in the world, positioning her for potential top-10 debut as her impressive form continues.

Spain's Kaitlin Quevedo also won her inaugural WTA title by rallying from a set and a break down to beat Nadia Podoroska 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the rescheduled Sao Paulo final. The 20-year-old Quevedo, who made her tour-level debut in January, is now enjoying the success of her eighth main-draw appearance.

In the Davis Cup, the Czech Republic advanced to the Final 8 by eliminating the USA for the second consecutive year. Led by Jakub Mensik and Jiri Lehecka, the Czechs repeated their surprising victory from last year, with Lehecka winning the decisive match against Learner Tien 6-3, 7-5. This outcome adds to the USA's challenges, as they remain without a Davis Cup title since 2007.
